Joint Admissions Testing Program
JATP (Joint Admissions Testing Program) testing is a school admissions assessment commonly used by private schools in the Atlanta area, typically for students applying to kindergarten through fifth grade. The purpose of JATP testing is to evaluate a child’s cognitive abilities and overall school readiness in a standardized way.
During the assessment, a licensed psychologist administers tasks that measure skills such as verbal and nonverbal reasoning, problem-solving, and visual or visual-motor abilities. The results provide schools with an objective snapshot of how a child thinks and learns, helping inform admissions decisions.
It is important to note that JATP testing is not designed to diagnose learning disabilities, ADHD, or emotional concerns, nor does it provide a comprehensive understanding of a child’s academic or psychological functioning. Instead, it is a brief, admissions-focused screening that helps schools determine whether a child is a good fit for their academic environment, rather than identifying underlying challenges or providing treatment recommendations.
