Meet Simona Cohen

Licensed Professional Counselor | National Certified Counselor

A woman standing outdoors in front of trees, smiling at the camera, wearing a sleeveless white top.

I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults and I am especially passionate about supporting girls and women across the lifespan, navigating stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, grief, identity exploration, perfectionism, burnout, and low self-esteem.

Through my warm, collaborative, and direct approach, I empower clients to create a more meaningful life that is aligned with their personal values.

I utilize different modalities (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) to explore emotions, gain understanding and self-compassion, build courage, and learn & apply new skills to make positive, desired changes. I see the good in my clients, even when they struggle to see it themselves, and I believe that with the right support they can fully step into the person they want to be.

I frequently provide clients with practical tools-handouts, book recommendations, specific podcast episodes, and apps-to support growth outside the therapy room.

I received my Master of Education in School Counseling from Georgia State University in 2015 and my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland.

I’m continually inspired by resources that deepen emotional understanding and build on coping skills.

Some of my favorite podcasts:

Therapy in a Nutshell

10% Happier

Grief Out Loud

Ask Lisa

Good Inside

Some of my favorite books include:

Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Tawwab

Self-Compassion by Kristin Neff

Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay Gibson

The Whole-Brain Child by Daniel Siegel

A couple of fun facts about me: I immigrated to the United States from North Macedonia at age 12. I love spending time with my two sons, my husband, and our black lab, Scuba. I’ve also completed several half marathons.

The therapeutic rapport between client and therapist is crucial to making positive changes, so if you have any questions about how we might work together, please feel free to reach out!

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
